Monday 28th June, to Lac de Serre Poncon

Left Privas today quite early after packing away the awning the previous night as it looked like rain but it didn’t happen.  On the road by about 9:30am and stopped off at the Hyper U hypermarket for food and fuel.

Had a brilliant drive across to Gap, it was a wonderful road and hardly any traffic.  Beautiful scenery and we were going through the Drome region, and mainly following the course of the River Drome along some spectacular valleys.  Driving here is a real pleasure.

Stopover en-route to Lac de Serre Poncon

How busy the roads are in the middle of the day!

We passed through Gap around 2pm the end of the 12-2pm lunch ‘hour’ !  Another 30 minutes and we were back in our favourite place from last years trip.  We have a spectacular pitch on a terrace overlooking the turquoise Lac de Serre Poncon.  There have been a few improvements since last year so its even better now.  The pool is now open and there are increased and improved ‘facilities’, also free WiFi.

After we arrived we set up the services, water and electric and then had lunch.  After that we put up the awning, just roof bit so we have open front and sides.  Nice to sit under for some shade but still ‘outside’.  It’s been in the low 30’s C for the last few days.

Late afternoon/evening it really clouded over accompanied by the sound of thunder rumbling around the mountain tops. It wasn’t long before we had some heavy rain which was accompanied by a spectacular rainbow emanating from the lake right outside our awning.

As close as I get to a pot of gold!!
