The journey was good. The roads are always quiet on a Sunday as pretty much everywhere is closed, It seem nobody works on a Sunday and only the big supermarkets open and then only from 10:30 to 12:30. Also no trucks on the road from midnight Saturday until midnight Sunday, although we did see a few, maybe they have a special dispensation? There is little enough traffic on the roads here at the best of times so it was really quiet. Until we got towards large towns there was seldom even another car in site.
It is certainly much cooler up here, I didn’t need the air conditioning on at all today. When we arrived at the site it was lunchtime and there was student on the reception desk and she asked us to choose a pitch from the site plan, so we chose one near one of the lakes. She didn’t seem keen for us to take a look around first. So we took a chance and when we got to the chosen place it was not good. It was dark from being under trees and the part of lake that it was near was overgrown and weedy. We had a look around and found another, better one in the open more but still secluded between 2 hedges. We just went and told the girl in reception we wanted this pitch and it seemed OK. It started to rain soon after we started to set up so we did the urgent stuff like getting water and plugging in the electric and had a cuppa until it left off. It showered on and off during the afternoon but its calm and dry now at 8:45 and there is still some blue sky around.
Its another of the Les Castels sites. They do seem a very good quality generally. This one also has some Eurocamp and Keycamp tents on it and representatives from each company . I would say in total, probably around 200 pitches altogether but nicely laid out. There are a couple of kids play areas, a 9 hole pitch and putt course, pony riding, go kart hire, volley ball nets, tennis courts and a swimming pool complex. There are 2 heated adult pools, one outside and one under a transparent plastic dome, a kids pool and also a water slide. There is a restaurant, take away, shop and bar as well. Fortunately we are in a nice quiet spot and away from it all. I think the site is less than one quarter full right now as well.
We have a couple of full days here now so we will decide what to do later.
